 1. "몸이 음악의 악기다" (Making Music with Our Bodies/Our Bodies are Musical Instruments)

 챈슬러 데이 연수(The Met Educator Event)는  '유럽 조각 코트(Carroll and Milton Petrie European Sculpture Court)'에서 진행된 두 번째 세션이었다. 핵심 주제는 "우리의 몸이 곧 악기이다 "라는 것이었습니다.

유서 깊은 박물관의 대리석 공간 속에서 무대에 오른 두 명의 전문 공연팀(Music from the Sole )들은 악기를 전혀 사용하지 않고 오직 자신들의 신체 움직임과 리듬과 소리만으로 공간을 채워 나가기 시작했습니다. 손뼉을 치고, 발을 구르고, 무릎, 배와 가슴을 두드리며 만들어내는 정교한 비트는 현장에 모인 사람들을 순식간에 매료시켰습니다.

1. "The Body is a Musical Instrument" (An Absolute Premise of Art)

The second session of The Met Educator Event for Chancellor’s Day was held at the magnificent Carroll and Milton Petrie European Sculpture Court. The core premise of this session was profoundly inspiring: "Our bodies themselves are the ultimate musical instruments."

Inside the historic museum’s grand marble court, two professional performers from the acclaimed group 'Music from the Sole' took the stage. Without utilizing a single traditional instrument, they began to fill the vast architectural space solely with their organic body movements and raw rhythms. The sophisticated beats created by clapping hands, stomping feet, and tapping chests instantly captivated every educator in attendance, redefining the boundaries of performance art.

2. 리듬이 있는 동작을 따라 하며 배우는 융합 교육

단순히 공연을 관람하는 것에 그치지 않고, 모든 참석자가 자리에서 일어나 두 공연자가 선보이는 리듬감 넘치는 신체 동작(Transformative Movement)을 직접 몸으로 따라 하며 체험하는 워크숍이 이어졌습니다. 

 청각적 리듬과 신체의 시각적 동선이 결합하는 순간은 매우 신선하였습니다. 두 공연자의 지시에 따라 박수를 치고 발을 구르면서 몸의 울림을 확장하는 과정 속에서 "이 역동적인 감각을 교육 현장에서 어떻게 학습자들을 위한 융합 미술 수업 지도안(Art Lesson Plans)으로 변형하고 적용할 것인가?"에 대한 구체적인 해답을 얻을 수 있었습니다. 강사는 이 동작을 활용하여 수업 현장에서 학습자들의 주의를 끌 때 사용하면 큰 효과를 얻을 수 있다고 하였다. 지금도 그날 배운 동작이 머릿속에서 맴돌고 있네요. feet/clap, feet,feet/clap,clap, feet,feet/clap,clap, feet/clap

                                   

2. Interdisciplinary Art Education Through Rhythmic Movements

Going beyond passive observation, this session transitioned into an interactive, hands-on workshop. Every participant stood up to mimic and internalize the rhythmic, transformative movements led by the performers.

The exact moment where auditory rhythm merged with the visual trajectory of the human body was incredibly refreshing. Following the performers' precise cues to clap, stomp, and expand our physical resonance, I gained concrete insights into a vital pedagogical question: "How can educators translate these dynamic physical sensations into integrated Art Lesson Plans for contemporary learners?" It was a powerful demonstration of how multi-sensory experiences can revitalize the modern art classroom.

3. 메트로폴리탄 박물관 소장품 스트라디바리우스(Stradivari) 바이올린과 인간 신체의 연결 고리

 실습후 메트로폴리탄 박물관 소장품으로 이뤄진 관련 전시로 연결되었습니다. 전시장 내부에서 마주한 1693년에 제작된 안토니오 스트라디바리(Antonio Stradivari)의 명기 'Gould' 바이올린은, 박물관의 설명에 따르면, 바이올린의 허리 라인과 넥, 그리고 구조적인 형태는 인간의 신체적 형상(Anthropomorphic shape)을 본떠 설계되었다고 합니다. 악기가 인간의 몸을 닮아 있듯, 인간의 몸 역시 가장 완벽한 구조를 가진 악기가 될 수 있다는 점을 박물관의 소장품과 신체 워크숍의 결합을 통한 융합 교육이었습니다

3. Connecting the Human Anatomy to The Met’s Stradivarius Violin

This physical practice naturally bridged into a deeper study of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s permanent collection. Inside the exhibition gallery, I encountered the legendary 1693 'Gould' violin, crafted by the master Antonio Stradivari.

According to the museum’s official curatorial description, the violin’s waist, neck, and overall structural anatomy feature an anthropomorphic shape, intentionally modeled after the human body. Just as the physical instrument mirrors human anatomy to produce its sublime sound, the human body itself serves as a perfectly structured instrument of artistic expression. This session was a masterclass in cross-disciplinary, integrated education—proving that profound learning happens when physical movement, sensory workshops, and historical museum artifacts beautifully align.
