뉴저지에서 섬유 예술 전시회와 워크샵을 진행하던 중, 예술이 가진 힘을 다시 한번 실감하게 한 특별한 분을 만났습니다. 전시장 한 켠에 설치된 제 자수 조각보 작품 앞을 오랫동안 떠나지 못하던 한 컬렉터 분이셨습니다. 그분은 다채로운 색감의 비단 위에 한국 자수(Hand Embroidery)로 피워낸 꽃들을 찬찬히 살펴보시더니, 이 작품이 유목 민족의 오랜 역사와 자연을 담은 몽골의 전통 섬유 작품(Mongolian Textile Art)을 상기시킨다며 깊은 감동을 표현하셨습니다. 그리고 사랑하는 딸에게 세상에서 가장 특별하고 의미 있는 선물을 주고 싶다며, 정성과 혼이 깃든 이 자수 작품을 선택하여 구매하였습니다.
[Art Exhibition] Connecting Through Fiber Art: A Special Encounter at a New Jersey Exhibition
While hosting my fiber art exhibition and workshops in New Jersey, I experienced a profoundly moving moment that reminded me of the true power of artistic communication. There was an art collector who stood for a long time in front of my hand embroidery and Jogakbo (traditional Korean patchwork) piece installed in a corner of the gallery. Gazing closely at the intricate flowers blooming on the vibrant, colorful silk, they expressed deep emotion. They shared that my work beautifully reminded them of Mongolian textile art, which embodies the nomadic heritage, vast nature, and long history of the Mongolian people. Expressing a desire to give the most unique and meaningful gift to their beloved daughter, the collector chose to purchase this piece—a work into which I had poured my entire heart, soul, and sincerity.
Art truly possesses an extraordinary power to transcend borders, cultures, and languages. A piece born from traditional Korean techniques resonated deeply with someone sharing a perspective on Mongolian heritage, right here in the heart of New Jersey. Knowing that an artwork holding my dedication has found a new home to convey love from a parent to a daughter fills my heart with immense gratitude. It is these meaningful connections with art collectors and viewers that give me the strength to continue my creative journey.
